| Description of the problem | Car parked at church. Could not insert key into ignition switch. No previous indication of problem. Review of problem on internet and discussion with dealership service agent revealed that this has been a long term problem over many years where a little plastic piece inside the switch gets out of place and blocks key entry. I consider this as a safety issue in an emergency. The cost to replace the switch quoted at about $450 but apparently the same type of switch which has only a 12,000 mile warrantee. Contact with a vw advocate yielded no help with replacement. Given the longevity of this issue, it seems appropriate that the switch be modified to prevent this potential safety issue. |
