Description of the problem	I have had an issue with a gas smell that arises from the engine compartment for over 4 years-- i was encourage to change my fuel pump by vw dealer-- but that was not the problem. I was encouraged to only put premium grade a gas and fuel injector cleaners which i did repeatedly, unfortunately the smell worsened until the day i went to register my car and i was told that there was a visible fuel leak from under the manifold and it was a slow drip that was evaporating off the engine head. I was told the car could combust at any time. I went to the nearer vw and the problem that no one could figure out for years was a "fuel line to high pressure pump" $ 399 total-- i no longer have this fuel smell. But based on my research there are thousands of vw's all models with the same issue . The fuel smell was noted the year after i purchased the car with 20,000 miles and the hose gave out at 70,000 miles. I believe this is a reportable incident for a possible recall.
