| Description of the problem | The vehicle exhibits an intermittent rubbing or metal-on-metal grinding noise from the rear wheels when making turns. Inspection revealed that the rear brake disks are rubbing on the metal brake disk shield during lateral loading experienced in turns. The problem has gotten more frequent and more pronounced over the past 12-18 months and 10-15k miles. Toyota believes the cause is failed rear axle bearings. The vehicle has about 72k miles and has always been serviced regularly and at a toyota dealership. Toyota has a technical service bulletin (t-sb-0013-13) on the issue but they claim this is normal wear and will not warranty the problem. In my opinion this is a serious defect of a major drive train system and not normal wear. |
