Description of the problem	Cruise control randomly stops working. Works perfectly for a few days then quits. Sometimes the cruise light is illuminated but the cruise control still does not function. The issue seems to be related to the steering column. Sometimes when the steering wheel is turned lock to lock the cruise control then operates normally. Local mechanic says this may be the "clock gear" which is very expensive to replace.
