Description of the problemMy wife came very close to getting into an accident while bringing the kids to school a few weeks ago. She was leaving a stop sign getting onto a very busy highway when our 2007 toyota tundra unexpectedly had drastically reduced power. After a trip to the dealership and some research i have found that the reduction in power was caused by a failure in the secondary air injection system. This system is part of the emissions system and is designed to increase efficiency during cold starts. When there is a failure in this system the ecm (onboard computer) goes into a mode in which the available power from the engine is dramatically reduced. Toyota has recommended that i replace two air injection pumps and a switching valve set at an estimate of over $3500. I am researching other options because they tell me that this problem can continue to reoccur over and over again.
