Description of the problem	While driving on highway 280 southbound at roughly 65 mph in friday evening traffic, the moonroof on my 2017 camry exploded spontaneously. It was so loud, i thought i had been shot at. Luckily, the cover was closed or glass would have been everywhere in the car's interior. The glass had exploded outward as there was no damage to the sliding cover at all. I called my insurance company but was unable to get into a shop as it was after 5 pm. The moonroof rails had to be replaced when i initially bought the car last year and so i thought the dealer would have the repair under warrantee. I took it to the dealer on saturday morning and they admitted that they had seen this problem before and that the repair was not under warrantee. Dennis mcconnell stated that the car was under so much external and internal pressure when sealed up at highway speeds that this failure sometimes happens especially as moonroof and sunroofs being a standard feature on cars today. I ended up paying $1072 for a repair i feel must be a structural issue that should be under recall by toyota. The car has less than 25k miles. I should not be responsible for the cost of this repair. I am now afraid that this will happen again and drive with the moonroof open on the freeway.
