Description of the problemOur car began burning excessive oil around 75,000 miles. As it turns out, this problem is due to a defective 2az-fe engines which were installed in the following vehicles: 2007-2011 toyota camry hv, 2007-2009 toyota camry, 2009 toyota corolla, 2009 toyota matrix, 2006-2008 toyota rav4, 2007-2008 toyota solara, 2007-2009 scion tc, and 2008-2009 scion xb . Toyota knew about the material design defect engines but they decided to sell the cars anyway: the engine defect typically becomes apparent either during or shortly after the limited warranty period has expired, so it wouldn't be their problem. In response to a lawsuit in 2014, they issued an extended warranty. However, the guidelines are very restrictive and only cover the most egregious cases, leaving us with a faulty engine that consumes a quart of oil every 1200-1400 and no means of repairing the vehicle.
