| Description of the problem | The dashboard is made of a plastic that deteriorates over time. The effect is a sticky coating when the dashboard is exposed to warmth. Toyota expanded the warranty for 10 years. My car did not exhibit symptoms during that time, or when checked, had not been exposed to heat (the car is garage kept). Dashboards should not wear out. Toyota was sold a defective material. I do not understand why toyota would not insist that customers are made whole for this (the repair is over $1,200) rather than risk losing loyal (formerlly loyal) customers. My wife and i have owned 5 toyotas since 1980, and currently have two. The shiny dash can be a safety hazard. Our 2007 had other serious defects that toyota repaired. We will shop another brand next time. |
