| Description of the problem | The engine was making a rattling noise, especially at start up and acceleration. I took the car to the dealer and was informed that the engine needs to be replaced and that the car is unsafe to drive, as the engine might seize up. Fortunately, i caught it before that happened. Toyota has a service bulletin out on this issue t-sb-0094-11; they knew there is a problem but never notified vehicle owners and the local dealer never performed the inspection test called for in the bulletin. In addition, there have been a number of complaints filed on this with nhtsa and hundreds more posted on the internet. There are two safety issues: engine failure while driving and toyota's disregard for safety, by not informing owners of the issue. |
