| Description of the problem | In 2015 i noticed i was burning through oil too fast, so i took my 2007 toyota camry to the toyota dealership. They said it could be the piston rings (a known problem, but not covered), and they couldn't do anything about it. Fast forward to january 2020, and i'm burning through 2. 5 quarts every fill-up. The check engine light came on and 'cylinder 3 misfire' was detected along with a bad spark plug. I had to spend around $400 to fix a coil and spark plug because the 3rd cylinder had expanded and was spilling over. 3 weeks later, the same thing happened with me adding 1 quart of oil every 1/2 tank. I was told this would cost upwards of $2,000-$3,000 to fix. I've seen this is a known problem, especially with the 2007 toyota camry, and this might be due to bad piston rings. I was forced to get a new car this weekend because of this. |
