Description of the problem	Details of problem: vehicle indicates that gas is remaining in tank(ie. Fuel indicator registers that 1/2 tank is remaining, when in fact gas tank is empty. Internet search has revealed that this is a very common complaint of nissan xterra owners (2006 through to 2008) and that the company has been installing a faulty fuel sensor in their vehicles for an extended time period. This poses a serious safety hazard on our freeways when the problem first shows itself. (ie. The potential for vehicles stalling out on the freeway due to the uninformed owners lack of awareness that they are running on an empty gas tank!) my attempt to address the problem: i discussed the problem with nissan consumer affairs north america, and nissan canada. I discovered that the company has issued a recall of specific vehicle #'s in the 2006 and 2008 product line. My internet research into consumer complaints about the problem indicates that this specific complaint is much more widespread than nissan is willing to admit. I inquired with nissan canada (wednesday, july 14) to see if there was another avenue through which i could refer this safety problem to nissan, but the receptionist assured me that i had no further recourse.
