Description of the problem	1. The fuel gauge on my 2007 nissan xterra seems to be malfunctioning. It does not read the correct amount of gas in the vehicle. Currently the vehicle has 49,000 miles. 2. The failure occurs daily. Before recognizing the problem, my vehicle ran out of gas while traveling down a busy road in dallas texas. The incident left my vehicle without power steering making it very dangerous to navigate the road. Luckily my stalled vehicle was not rear ended (there was not a hazard lane to move onto). I 3. I have contacted nissan north america regarding the issue (case #6762797). They acknowledged a problem with the fuel sending unit. As i understand, a recall has been created to correct the problem. However, it only covers the 2006 and 2008. Not the 2007. I now use the trip odometer to calculate the correct amount of fuel in the tank. The engine currently shows a cel (check engine light).
