Description of the problem	At 40k miles, fuel gauge started intermittent failure, along with "check engine" light... Internet boards for xterra owners indicated widespread similar problems. I contacted nearest nissan dealer in parkersburg, wv, was told would cost me $330 for parts & labor to replace the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank. First, i don't feel obligated to pay out of pocket for this repair, for a vehicle that isn't even 3 years old with 40k miles. Secondly, most certainly don't want to replace it with same type of sensor that hasn't been updated & will likely malfunction as well, as has been reported by many other xterra owners. I have been estimating fuel level in tank by using trip odometer, and vehicle now shows 42k miles... Gauge continues to malfunction intermittently. I would like it repaired under "good faith" by a dealer, with no out-of-pocket cost, when i take it for the recall notice about replacing the front impact airbag sensor... Haven't scheduled that repair yet, but would like to have it all done at that time. Thank you!
