Description of the problem	While rolling from a stop driving a nissan 2005 titan truck with 84,200 miles on it, i heard a noise and subsequent clanging sound. Later that day i investigated the sound and determined it was coming from the rear of the vehicle and the problem was probably the rear differential. I took it to a nissan dealer who later determined that the pinion gear loss a tooth/teeth. After further investigation i determined the only way to fix the problem was to install the whole rear end assembly including housing, gears, and axles costing $3100 at the nissan dealer. There is a safety problem with nissan which needs to be investigated.
