Description of the problem | Catastrophic rear differential failure. Was leaving work and everything seemed fine, came to stop at stopsign, hit throttle to go and bang, the rear blew. Afterwards the truck would not move, but the driveshaft was spinning and bad grinding and clunking sounds could be heard. I'm sure nissan is going to replace the axel assembly although it is still in the shop. I have corresponded with others who have had this happen, and the rear is always replaced as a unit, and nissan isn't really acnowledging that a problem exists, although some have gone through 3 rear ends. As far as i know, they all have the electronic locking differential option. Nobody was hurt, but i wouldn't want to see what would happen if it failed on the highway. *nm |
