Description of the problem	Vehicle would start to make loud noise when braking, and then brakes would stop working altogether. The first few incidents in the past year because we were driving at slow speed we could coast to a stop. Turn off engine, and then turn back on. Problem went away until next incident. We just completed a factory repair costing just under $1400 and it was to replace a mechanism that was failing to deliver the signal, or fluid (i don't understand this very well enough technically) to make the brakes stop. The parts were over $600 and labor also over $600. While vehicle is 10 years old this type of problem seems to be a defect issue and not wear and tear. I've read that this is a reported issue with nhtsb so i wanted to file also.
