Description of the problem	Continuously variable transmission)cvt failed for the second time since purchasing the vehicle brand new. I was driving on an interstate highway when my engine suddenly lost power. The engine rpms shot up but my car started slowing down. I took the car to a nearby nissan dealer to be inspected. The service person there said the cvt fluid was overheating causing the transmission to basically start slipping. He couldn't tell me why the cvt fluid was overheating but he said he could install an external transmission cooler (for $1300) that nissan made for the vehicle that may alleviate the problem or replace the cvt. I had them install the cooler and the problem went away. Obviously nissan knows there's a problem with their cvts and they designed a solution that they are making customers pay for to have their vehicles returned to a drivable condition. The sudden loss of power could be a safety problem if it happened during highway rush hour traffic. I was on an 8-lane interstate in texas when it happened to me but luckily it wasn't rush hour and i was able to move all the way over to the right lane and take an exit off the highway.
