Description of the problemOn june 15, 2018, i was driving on the freeway and my nissan rogue 2011 with a continuously variable transmission (cvt) started to lose power for no apparent reason, and it decelerated from 70 to 40 miles per hour (mph) in a 70 mph zone. The engine was making a whining noise while revving at high rpm's. I tried to accelerate back up to the speed limit and it wouldn't accelerate more than 40 mph and the engine continued to rev at high rpm's. I had to pull over to the freeway shoulder and put my hazard lights on while driving 40 mph. I exited the off ramp and stopped at the stop sign. When i tried to accelerate, the car was very sluggish and i had to pull over to the side of the road again because it wasn't accelerating and was driving at about 2 mph. The only way i could drive was to down shift to low and drive at low speed on surface streets. Cars were honking their horns behind me because my car would take 5 - 10 seconds to move forward from a stop sign. I had to stay in low gear because it wouldn't accelerate in regular drive gear. I stopped at an automotive repair shop and was informed that the local aamco transmission shop refused to work on nissan rogue transmissions. The automotive repair shop said that it would cost $4,500 for a new transmission. I shouldn't be having transmission problems on a 2011 vehicle. I heard that nissan extended the warranty for nissan rogue transmissions built before 2011. My nissan rogue was built in 2011 so the warranty extension doesn't apply to my vehicle.
