| Description of the problem | The cvt transmission on the vehicle failed at just under 115k miles. I followed the maintenance plan provided by the manufacturer and had the transmission inspected at a dealer as part of that maintenance schedule. The transmission failed in rush hour traffic on a busy city street, and there were no check engine or other warning lights in advance of the car suddenly struggling to accelerate and jerking to a stop when trying to brake. This happened in rush hour traffic with a child in the car, which was extremely dangerous. Even after i was able to coax the car off the road and into a parking lot, jerking and practically stalling along the way, there were no warning lights or other indicators that subsequently came on to indicate there was any potential trouble with the vehicle. The dealer service advisor could only say the transmission suffered an internal failure and could not explain why it happened, what caused it or how the transmission passed prior inspection fewer than 30k miles prior to sudden failure. It is fortunate we were not rear-ended when the acceleration failed and that i was able to get off of the road so that me and my child were not in further danger on the road. This transmission is hazardous to have in vehicles as it can bring one to a stop almost immediately with no warning at all, and the manufacturer can't even explain why or what happened. They also will only replace the failed cvt with another cvt, which i believe is unsafe so i won't be having it repaired. The nissan cvts should not be on the road. They are as dangerous to others in traffic with one of their vehicles when the transmission fails as they are to the owner/occupants of that nissan vehicle. |
