| Description of the problem | The timing chain guides (teflon based material) in the vq35 engines were prematurely causing audible rubbing and banging upon start up and early warm up idle conditions. This premature wear of the tension guides is a safety hazard due to the fact that the timing chain has undo slack from early degradation of tension guides which may cause the timing chain to wear/break prematurely and without warning while driving at highway speeds. This would cause the engine to shut down unexpectedly. |
