| Description of the problem | Faulty fuel gauge sensor, 2007 nissan pathfinder . It was thanksgiving day, i was returning home when my son i stopped to fill up. My son was driving and shortly after take off he indicated the gauge wasn't working, the distance to empty numbers weren't up and the "service engine soon" light was on. We got off at the next exit and i thought he must have not been paying attention and no gas was pumped. I tried to fill up only to get about . 50 cents in the tank. I drove home and notice the distance numbers read backward until the needle was on full and it read correctly. I drove the vehicle a couple of days then the light went off. After driving for another few days the light came back on. I took it to autozone for them to test it. They read me the things it could be. I then called nissan in gonzales and they told me that sound about right and it would cost me around $500 plus tax. I didn't have the $$ at the time therefore i had to continued to drive the vehicle with the engine light still on, and try and monitor my mileage and estimate how long i had before empty. Times i would fill up and needle would drop to empty and gas light would be on and over a course of 2 or 3 days, it eventually went off, at times it would still show full, and it would give me the distance to empty until about half way then i just had the dots. This was always somewhere around 180-200 miles remaining. I've been driving around a little over 3 months with the faulty sensor. Can i tell you my nerves were bad, because i didn't want to be on the road at night, or anytime and run out of gas. I finally took my car in for a diagnostic and they told me this is for sure what i needed. I just got my car repaired on monday, march 1, 2010. You better believe i have my receipt. |
