| Description of the problem | I own a 2006 pathfinder and based on research done online, it's appalling to see how many folks have the same problem and nissan has not recalled the vehicle. I filled up my tank on 6/19, but fuel gauge didn't move from half tank. The check engine light soon came on and stayed on. After discussing with the dealer, it's going to cost about $600 to fix this well known and documented problem on the pathfinders, xterras and frontiers. The issue is a fuel sender sensor that can reduce or stop gas from flowing into the engine. This is a part failure that needs to be corrected by nissan before anyone is injured or results in death due to vehicle stopping in the middle of the freeway. To read that most folks are not fixing the problem due to the financial is just as freighting, but i'm in total agreement. Why should anyone have to pay for a known and defective part on a vehicle that is 3 years old with little over 40k miles. This issue has been around for years, going back to 2000. Nissan finally recalled the 2000 through 2004 models. They need to do the right thing and recall the 2005 through 2009 models. In this site alone there are over 45 complaints on the 2006 pathfinder. That is on 2006 model year alone. Searching through other forums, the complaints litter web pages on the same problem across the nation. Someone offered a solution to pull the negative wire from the battery which would reset the check engine light and turn it off. This does not fix the problem, it prolongs it and gives a false sense of security. |
