Description of the problemWhile driving my murano and coming up to a stoplight the brakes for no apparent reason were suddenly extremely soft that i had to almost fully depress the brake pedal to the floor to get the car to stop. I was able to get the car stopped before i entered the intersection and no accident occurred. I took the car to my local auto shop and they diagnosed as the abs unit failed but i would have to go to dealer. Went to nissan dealer who did diagnostics test which indicated a brake master cylinder failure even though i suggested it was the abs unit that had failed based on my mechanics diagnoses. Dealer replaced brake master cylinder but did not correct the brake problem. They then replaced the abs hydraulic unit which did cause problem to go away. Total repair cost was $2,479. We have a second 2009 nissan murano that just had the exact same thing happen to its brakes. There is clearly a failure in the abs braking system that nissan is clearly ignoring which is clearly putting consumers at risk of injury or death. Hope the ntsb speeds up their investigation before some person or family dies due to this abs braking failure
