Description of the problemThe cvt transmission malfunctions and vehicle enters failsafe 'limp' mode when transmission is at peak operating temperature (approximately 20 minutes of stop and go acceleration from a cold vehicle). Vehicle begins to shutter (shake) when accelerating from a stop. The shuttering during acceleration progressively gets worse to a point the vehicle enters a failsafe 'limp' mode. Once in failsafe 'limp' mode you absolutely have no acceleration and vehicle travels approximately 2-3 mph. This puts the occupants of the vehicle in grave danger, especially in scenarios while in a left turn lane with 50 mph oncoming traffic that i had to experience with my family. The brought the vehicle to the dealership and they indicated that the vehicle requires a new transmission; $5,000. The vehicle has a current market value of $5,000. Nissan will not cover the costs of the repair. Cvt transmission defects are a known problem and nissan extended the warranty for the cvt transmission to 10 years / 120,000 miles. My vehicle is 11. 5 years old and at 127,000 miles and they will not cover the cost of repair.
