Description of the problemBrought my vehicle into the shop for maintenance and was told that the transfer case is leaking. This is a known issue with the 2009-2014 murano and there are numerous complaints across several forums. The transfer case cannot be repaired and has to be replaced. The cost to replace it by the dealership is $3500 and there are numerous reports that if the transfer case is not fixed the engine will seize up at highway speeds. While i'm lucky this hasn't happened to me, it doesn't mean it won't happen to someone else who is unaware that their transfer case is leaking. This repair is also not covered under warranty. There are reports that this issue is only with transfer cases manufactured between 2009 and 2014, which sounds like a manufacturer defect. Give that why is this not required to be covered under a recall, or at the very least the warranty? Something needs to be done to force the manufacturer to be responsible for their defective parts.
