Description of the problemMy 2007 nissan murano suddenly begin acting like it wanted to shut of while on the highway. I would press the gas pedal about 3/4 down to the floor and there would be a few second lag before the rpm would rise and then suddenly jerk forward. I couldn't get my speed above 30 mph without the vehicle attempting to change gears on it own. Then one day as i'm going to the grocery store i came to a stop at a traffic light. When the light turned green i slowly accelerated and suddenly my car jerked abruptly and came to a halt. At this point the vehicle was inoperable. The most embarrassing part is that i was 1/4 of the way in the intersection and i was holding up the traffic all three ways. A good police officer stopped behind me and called a towing company. I had to pay over $100 to get my car towed. On top of that i had to tow it to the transmission place to have it checked since the car would start and rev, but not move forward. The transmission shop said the cvt belt prematurely broke. After researching this seems to be a very common problem among vehicles with cvt transmission, especially the nissan murano's. My car has a little over 100,000 miles on it. With the number of complaints on this same issue i'm surprised nissan has not initiated a recall. This vehicle could have failed on the highway and is a very serious safety issue.
