| Description of the problem | A burning or hot component odor occurred on a long trip with the a/c set to automatic control at 74 f with outside temps in the 80's. The heat "odor" was tracked to a section approx 2 inches square of the a/c ducts under the glove compartment on the passenger side. It appears to be a point near a motor or hot side of the exchange coil. The surface of the duct appeared to be hot enough to cause blistering if skin were held in contact for an extended duration. A barefoot passenger falling asleep could receive a burn. If cargo or a purse prevents air from circulating on the outside of the duct, it is unknown if it could get hot enough to ignite combustible materials. |
