Description of the problem	Applied the brakes while driving at approximately 25 mph, there was a loud grinding sound from the brakes and the brakes did not work. Also, made a strange sound like a spring. Pumping brakes and pushing them really hard didn't make any difference. The brakes had almost no effect in stopping the car. Fortunately, no one was killed or injured this time, but if this had happened a minute earlier on the steep hill we live on the result could have been very different. When the ignition was turned off and back on again the brakes appear to work fine. A quick search turns up many other nissan owners with the same experience when this brake system glitches. This is a more serious problem than the toyota accelerator problem because this problem disables the brakes when it occurs!! Also, many owners report that the nissan tsb instructions to re-program abs and ecm computers does not reliably fix this problem as many have experienced reoccurences after this remedy. Nissan needs to issue a safety recall and ensure a reliable remedy for brake failure or someone will be killed by this.
