Description of the problemThis experience happened yesterday, september 3, 2013 with my family in traffic. I'm entering this report for the time it first happened when i was driving although it has happened more times for my wife who is the primary driver. In total this has happened over 10 times. One september 6, 2011 i was dropping kids off in school where the teachers control how we approach and allow the kids to get out of the car. I was in the next group to pull forward. As i attempted to brake, there was not any reduction in speed. The brakes made a hollow metal scraping sound but did not stop the car. I ran into the car in front of us since there was way to turn with school kids on both sides of the car. We got out and determined the suv i hit was not damaged and we settled the accident with a lunch since we were friends. My front bumper was scraped cosmetically since the other vehicle had a trailer hitch. After restarting the car, i could not duplicate the problem. I have personally had this experience about 5 times in random speeds up to 40 mph approaching lights. I have always had to find a way to not harm people or crash. I've even driven over curbs into sidewalks avoiding people. My wife has had this experience more than myself. It's an amazing flaw in the vehicle that i've found no answer to online or at the 6 to 8 dealers i've asked. Nissan dealers only recommend service, act sympathetic and wait for you to back off the issue. Wow, i was amazed this is noted so much in this nhtsa database but not an investigation, recall, etc. This is an amazing problem that i've spoke about with any nissan or infiniti owner i can and they have all had it happen and they have several crash avoidance stories. *jb
