| Description of the problem | The shift lock will not release. Apparently the solenoid that releases the lock has ceased functioning. The same complaints are found all over the internet and nissan won't acknowledge it. They also want at least $750. 00 to replace what is at best a $20 part. That's because it is part of the shift mechanism and they want to replace the entire unit. That leaves only two choices for those who can't afford a repair of that price. One is to disable the lock mechanism or the second is not shift into park at all and use the emergency brake. Neither are sensible alternatives but with no help from nissan they are the only two available. |
