Description of the problem	We were driving our 2004 mercury monterey with only 50,000 miles on it, doing about 40 mph when all of a sudden, without any warning signs, the rpms increased and the vehicle stopped accelerating. It acted like it was in neutral. We were able to drift off the road onto the shoulder and discovered we had lost all the gears in our van. Thank god no one was hurt, but the 4 adults and 3 children under 2 were stranded on the side of a road in the middle of nowhere 3 1/2 hours from home. *kb
