Description of the problem	On or about 5/20/2013 i noticed a taillight and brake light failure on the right rear taillight assembly. I looked in the handbook for a bulb number and it was noted that it must be replaced by the dealer. I contacted the local dealer and was informed that this was an led assembly and the whole taillight would need to be replaced. I was further informed that the led's were not the problem , but the ballast in the electrical system that was causing the failure. I was then told that the replacement was $500. 00. Led's are supposed to last for thousands of hours, unfortunately, judging from the number of complaints on the internet, my situation is not an isolated incident. It is ridiculous to have to pay over $500 to fix a faulty brake/taillight. It then becomes a safety hazard as people may not be able to afford such an expensive fix for what would otherwise be a $3-4 bulb. The consumer should not have to pay for a poor design and a potential safety hazard. I did contact ford customer service and was told there may be some post-warranty funds available, but that i would need to have the problem diagnosed at the dealer. A service tech diagnosis would cost an additional $110. 00 with no guarantee of any financial reimbursement. Now over $600. 00 for a brake/taillight.
