Description of the problem	The wind shield wiper's electric motor and worm gear malfunctioned while driving in the rain on an interstate highway. The rain sensor optics were on and operational at the time of the incident. As the rain volume increased, the automatic sensors increased the wiper velocity. The passenger's side blade unit over-torqued and became entangled with the driver's side rod. This entanglement caused both wiper blades to detach from their rods. The tandem system wiper gear discontinued to work, leaving the driver and passenger side rods in a 45 degree angle, blocking visibility. The rods, without the entire wiper blade attachments damaged the window. Due to the safety hazard, both rods in the line of the driver's visibility and the weather conditions, the car was immediately deemed inoperable due to this malfunction.
