| Description of the problem | Strong smell of gasoline inside & outside of car for 2-3 days after gas fill up. Car into mercedes benz of pembroke pines fl. Oct. 10, 2010. Replaced l/side fuel sender unit. Strong smell of gasoline remained so strong could not drive more than a few blocks or park in garage. Car back to mercedes nov. 5, 2010. Diagnosis - faulty gas tank vent. Replaced gas tank got car back nov. 13, 2010. Repairs well over $2000. Even though car emitted gas smell detectable from 50 feet, and clearly unhealthy to drive, not considered emission issue. Mercedes internet forums indicate this is a common problem with 2003-2006 e class. |
