Description of the problem	In january, 2009, i purchased a certified used mercedes benz e350 from a mercedes dealer in tuscaloosa, alabama. At the time i purchased my vehicle it had approximately 40,000 miles on the odometer. In december, 2012, i began to notice the smell of fuel in the cabin of my car. The smell was overwhelming and increased over time. At the time i first noticed the fuel smell, my vehicle had approximately 90,000 miles on the odometer and the vehicle was no longer under warranty. I took the vehicle to my mercedes dealer in georgetown, texas, and was informed of the faulty gas seal and was very surprised when they informed me that i had to replace the seal, entire gas tank, and gas lines. To fix the problem, which was now a safety hazard as well as an environmental hazard to the occupants of my vehicle, i had to pay over $3,600 out of pocket to have the repair completed. The repair was completed in an afternoon and i have had no further issues. My complaint is that this is a known safety hazard with the make/model of this car and mercedes refused to fix this known safety issue. Without fixing this problem, the car became unusable.
