| Description of the problem | Hood latch failure - traveling on a 2 lane highway at posted speeds of 75 mph, as an 18 wheeler approached/passed and the rush of wind "hit" the vehicle, both exterior rubber hood latches as well as the internal metal hood latch failed, causing the hood to fly up, slamming against the windshield, shattering it and bending the hood over the top frame of the windshield, and the hood did not fall back down. Thankfully the driver was able to control and slow down the vehicle and get safely off the road, then had to climb up to pull the hood off of the top frame of windshield frame. The force of this was so great it completely knocked the rear view mirror off of the windshield. |
