Description of the problemImproper design of oil cooling unit - weak and incapable of repeated maintenance stresses. Scheduled oil change with local auto maintenance shop revealed significant amount of oil coating rear of engine, transmission bell housing, and light sheen of oil coating many components on the undercarriage. Pooled oil on the engine block at the front, directly underneath oil filter housing. Hours of internet research leads me to multiple jeep message forums with similar/identical scenario. Every owner finds cause in faulty/compromised "adapter-engine oil filter" jeep part number 68105583aa. Noted that this part has been upgraded/revised to an ae designation, thus revealing that jeep knows this part to be faulty and/or of inadequate design. Vehicle was stationary (parked) when this happened, but only took note of a potential problem when i noticed an oil spot where i always park at my office, and at home. No vehicles i own have ever left an oil spot before this.
