Description of the problemRear brakes worn and failing due defective pistons. Took the jeep in to have the problem looked at and i was told this is normal for jeep wrangler by the technician. The jeep was purchased in april of 2008. It has 32,149 miles. The front brakes had more than 70% pad left. My concern is if the pistons are applying constant pressure to brake pads can this cause them to overheat and potentially catch fire? I contacted jeep directly and they said that if the technician at the dealership says it's normal wear and tear then there was nothing they could do for me. I've been driving for 25 years and never ever had a vehicle do this before. I did some searching on the web and discovered others are experiencing this problem. Case number i filed with jeep [xxx] number called to filer complaint with jeep 800-992-1997. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
