| Description of the problem | I own a 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited. I have been having a problem with fuel spitting out of the gas tank every time i fill it with gas. I received a notice from chrysler a couple of months ago explaining that they knew about the problem and if the car was brought to an authorized dealer it would be repaired free of charge. I took my jeep to a dealer on 6/29/11 and asked them to fix the problem. They told me that they would not be able to make the repairs unless they could independently verify the issue. Of course, they told me that when they took the car to the gas station it did not spit the fuel out at them. In my opinion, this is not an inconvenience issue but a safety issue. Not only does this cause me to spill gas onto the ground when i fill up my car, but the part that is causing the problem (the inlet check valve) is also responsible for preventing a fuel leak in the event of a rollover. This puts me at greater risk of being involved in a car fire if my vehicle is involved in a rollover accident. If i were one of a handful of people experiencing this problem i would understand the need for independent verification. However, this is an issue that has been going on for years in many different makes and models from chrysler. If they knew enough about it to issue the bulletin and extend the warranty coverage on the part, they should be willing to make the repairs to the car without questions, especially when safety is compromised. Updated 08/24/11 *bf the gas tank was replaced on august 8, 2011 under warranty. Updated ivoq 08/31/11 |
