| Description of the problem | Violent front end shimmy known as "death wobble". Occurs at speeds of 40-50 mph. Vehicle shakes violently and is uncontrollable. Initially, tapping the brakes and slowing slightly would stop the shaking, but problem has progressed to the point that the vehicle needs to come to almost a complete stop to stop the shaking. This is a safety issue as the shaking poses an accident risk by virtue of losing control of the vehicle and/or a rear end collision, as there is nothing else to do but bring the vehicle to a sudden stop in order to regain control. This issue is well documented online and is the subject of technical service bulletin 19-003-06 (august of 2006). It should be noted, however, that this tsb does not fix the problem, it only masks the problem by adding a steering stabilizer. |
