Description of the problemStarting about 12-15 gas fill-ups ago, my 2007 jeep wrangler unlimited 4x4 rubicon started to eject fuel out of the gas filler tube about a second after the pump automatically shut off. I have not changed any procedure during fill-ups and have used the same gas pumps and gas stations for the last 2 years -- this started out of the blue. When the gas overflows, it ejects with enough pressure to cover the gas cap hanging below with gas, and saturates the side of the jeep and bumper, dropping a good amount of gas on the ground (probably about a 2. 5 - 3 foot radius of a puddle). The first time it happened, my hand was covered in gas, and i estimate about a half gallon of gas was ejected. It now happens every time during a fill-up unless i stop the gas pump before the tank is close to full. I have listened attentively during a few fill-ups, and have shut off the pump once i hear a change in sound that the tank is near full -- and this still results in fuel ejecting from the filler tube, but just not as much. I can no longer rely on the pump auto shut off even at low filling speeds, and i can no longer fill the tank to it's previously normally full capacity. I am very concerned about the safety of this, not only to me and my passengers, but the other patrons around me -- not to mention the environmental impact of the gas spills. There are no known fixes, and it appears, according to jeep forums, that this is becoming a very common problem, with the latest updates that chrysler completely replacing gas tanks only under warranty, and with no apparent updates to keep it from occurring again in the future. My jeep has just come out of warranty around the end of september, due to mileage. I now have 40,000 miles on the jeep, and i estimate this started at about 35,000 miles.
