Description of the problem	The universal joint holding the side mirror broke on both sides of the vehicle within ~1 month of each other. The same component failed in exactly the same way in both instances. In both cases, the problem was discovered at the end of a work day (~5pm) after the vehicle was parked outside for the entire work day. The problem was noticed prior to entering or even touching the vehicle. The mirror was loose and pointing more toward the ground than normal. Upon attempting to adjust the mirror into the correct position, it was found to be loose and detached. The broken piece is made of plastic. It has a hemisphere with 3 prongs sticking out of it. The 3 prongs have grooves in them that engage with tabs on a spacial washer. The washer pushes on a spring. One of the prongs is broken at the top of the groove which is engaged with the washer. It appears that the plastic is not strong enough for the spring load, but there may also be contributing factors due to stress concentrations in the groove or from the sharp edges of the washer.
