| Description of the problem | The active head restraint has failed. The steel pin which holds the restraint in the closed/set position tore through the plastic that is designed to hold it in place. The system has not deployed, but has released because of a material failure, and can not be reset. The vehicle was stationary, unoccupied, parked in my driveway, engine off, and the key in the house. Had i been driving when the plastic failed, it would have been like getting randomly punched in the back of the head while moving down the road, creating a serious safety issue. I am concerned the passenger seat could have the same failure and injure my wife. |
