Description of the problem	On our 2014 jeep grand cherokee the plastic seat belt guide, on the passenger side has cracked pinching down on the seat belt rendering it not usable. The seat belt will expand out, however it does not retract in due to the pressure from the broken piece. The seat belt will not stop the passenger in a sudden impact and has enough slack that you can easily make contact with the dash and steering wheel. This malfunction occurred while stationary.dt comsumer stated it was not taken anywhere for diagnosis as i have been a mechanic for over 30 years. I did not keep any records but i did fix the problem by trimming the plastic on the upper side of the seatbelt opening to allow free movement. This did not in any way compromise the integrity of the seatbelt or the ability for it to perform it's job as the top of the plastic trim should not have been touching in the first place. The plastic guard is there to keep dirt, dust and little fingers from getting inside the belt assembly and performs no other function. By removing 1/8" from the top of the opening, the seatbelt is now free to move back into the seat belt retractor and still provide protection from anything entering into the seatbelt area behind the plastic trim. Seat belt does not work because of poor design.jb
