Description of the problem	Approximately three weeks ago i noticed oil drips where the car was parked. The car had 49,740 miles and was almost due for a 5,000 mile oil change. I took it early and asked the mechanic to check on the leaks. He found there was oil all over the underside of the car and especially around the oil pan, although no apparent source of the leak could be seen, the oil pan gasket/seal was replaced. That did not help the problem, the next day there was a larger puddle of oil under the car. Apparently, the oil filter housing on this car is cracked, leading to an oil leak on top of the engine and pooling that runs down the back of the engine. Occasionally burning oil can be smelled, creating a possible fire hazard issue to the passengers. It would seem that this is a known problem - nhtsa has recorded a number of complaints from users (e. G., 11244788,11230350, 11193883, etc.). Fca issued an early service bulletin: sb-10058301-5939. Searching online shows literally hundreds of complaints about this issue. This is an expensive repair that should never have been necessary. The replacement part number is now on its sixth revision (currently adapter-engine oil filter - mopar 68105583af). It seems like there should have been a recall for this issue long ago.
