| Description of the problem | The egr cooler failed, allowing hot coolant to be directed into the intake manifold. The hot coolant caused the premature failure of internal mechanical components in the intake manifold and sever thermal damage to the intake manifold. The intake manifold, egr cooler, and other fuel components were replaced at owner's expense. Other owners experiencing this failure have encountered fires in the engine bay due to the excessive heat applied to the composite intake manifold. This failure is typically undetected until a significant loss of coolant has occurred, or the intake manifold is damaged enough to cause a malfunction detected by the computer. The ram 1500 model that uses this engine already has a recall for the egr cooler. This recall should be extended to the jeep grand cherokee models as well. |
