| Description of the problem | Rear driveshaft cv joint failure at ~78,500 miles. The boot that contains the bearing grease failed and left a ring of grease on neighboring components. Failed joint is the one that connects to the transfer case. From onset of symptoms (mild clicking noise) to noticeable driveline vibration and very loud popping in center of vehicle was less than 100 miles. Unsure how much longer i could have driven before the joint failed or the driveline vibrations damaged the transfer case or rear axle. When the rear driveshaft was removed, i noticed a grease ring on a front driveshaft cv joint. That driveshaft will also be replaced. |
