Description of the problem	The vehicle started making a loud tapping sound from engine at idle and while driving. Mechanic diagnosed it with bad lifters. The needle bearings in the lifters used in this engine tend to fail. The failure causes the lifter bearing to seize up and damage the camshaft. Had lifters replaced two times in a 4 month period. Camshaft replaced one time. Research on the web show several examples of this same failure in hemi 5. 7l engines. The failure can occur anywhere from 50,000 miles to over 100,000 miles. The common cause is the lifter bearings failing and damaging the camshaft. Repairs range anywhere from $3000-5000. This leads me to conclude that the failure is due to an engineering defect on the lifters by the manufacturer.
