Description of the problem	Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. While pulling into the driveway at 5 mph, the contact observed smoke coming from the engine and heard an abnormal winding sound without warning. The contact stopped the vehicle, opened the hood, and observed that the alternator was red (glowing). The contact poured water over the alternator to prevent a fire. The local dealer (my chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat, 4650 e pickard rd, mt pleasant, mi, 48858) was contacted at 989-773-6343. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was confirmed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system) for the alternator replacement, but the part was unavailable. The dealer stated that they could replace the alternator with another alternator for a fee. Once the recall alternator was available, the dealer could replace it with the correct alternator from the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 32614886. The manufacturer confirmed that the parts were unavailable and there would be a fee for the non-recalled part. No additional assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 150,000.
