Description of the problem	I was driving on the highway when the red battery light lit up on my dashboard. Within seconds of the battery light coming on the car's electrical system completely shut down causing the engine to stall. The diagnosis from the dealer mechanic was a shorted alternator which caused the powertrain control module (pcm) to short.
